Remember a post from a few months ago with pictures of Galen and Lucy reading on the bed? Here is the second installment. Galen or I read to Lucy before each nap and bedtime. It seems that she really enjoys it. She loves opening and closing (mostly closing) each book and usually sits so still and quiet while being read to. Not in this video. For some reason she LOVES this book. On each page there is a flap to lift and she gets really excited to look under each flap. I heard her yelling from the living room as Galen was reading to her this night and I grabbed our camera to capture this moment. Every time I watch it I laugh out loud.

Green Beans!!!!
This was taken a month ago when we first started feeding Lucy solids. After loving pears, apples, sweet potatoes, rice cereal and bananas, I thought we'd try nutritious green beans! This video was the third of three. In the first two clips Lucy seems to tolerate the vegetables. She must not have really tasted them until Wendy tried this sneak attack. Make sure you watch Lucy's face closely. It looks like we fed her something horrible! (I must say I don't blame her. I tried these pureed green beans after I made them. They are pretty gross.)

Six Months Old!!!
It's been so long since my last post. Lucy has changed so much! At her six month doctor's appointment she was 15 pounds 14 ounces (50th percentile) and 27 1/4 inches long (95th percentile), so our baby is still long and lean. A month ago she started rolling to get toys and now she is army crawling (belly on the floor, elbow over elbow). She also gets up on her hands and knees and rocks back and forth. She hasn't quite figured out how to move one hand at a time in this position. She just collapses onto her tummy.
We started some solid foods at five months. I've been making all her baby food at home, but I'm sure that will change once I go back to school. So far she's had rice cereal, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, bananas, avocados, and green beans. She's a big fan of all of them except green beans. Lucy believes green beans are put on this earth to torture her. I'll try to post a video of her eating green beans. Her face is awesome!
Let's see....what else...she isn't really babbling yet. She is a great growler and she blows raspberries all the time and she ooooohs like a monkey, but I haven't been able to get a consonant out of her. She has been sleeping through the night consistently for probably six weeks now. Goes to bed at 6:30 or 7 and wakes up around 6. She usually pops a pacifier in her mouth and lets me sleep until 7, sometimes 8. It's heaven. And this child LOVES to bounce. She is happiest when any adult holds under her arms and lets her bounce and bounce and bounce. She also loves to stand up holding on to your index fingers.
We still take her to the beach almost every weekend. Between Galen, Wendy, and I switching off entertaining her, we've been able to play volleyball on a regular basis and Galen bought her her first volleyball (mini) when the AVP was in town last weekend. She's been practicing smacking the ball. I predict she'll play her first game in the next few weeks.
I popped a bunch of random pictures into the blog because I'm so behind..Enjoy!

Coronado here. So happy with Daddy. As long as we didn't get her feet in the water. She doesn't really like the ocean yet.
Our pictures are out of order. This is from a few weeks ago, mid-July. Thanks to Kristin and Holly for this outfit. Galen thinks she should be the Strawberry Smuckers spokesgirl with this outfit on.
Same day at the beach. So happy! This is before we put her feet in the water for the first time. After that, not so happy.
This was during a green beans feeding session. I just love this pose. One arm tucked behind the tray and one leg up like she owns the place.
This is a sweet potato feeding session in our San Diego hotel. We went to visit Kristin and Holly in San Diego two weekends ago. Galen is feeding her here. He does a much better job of keeping the food in her mouth. He puts the bowl directly under her chin and shovels it in. It's a great technique!
We had lots of shots of her crawling around on the bed. I think here she was tired of performing for us. This is right when she started to army crawl.
Holly! Her favorite family babysitter (Wendy of course being the favorite non-family babysitter). Thanks to Holly who watched Lucy so Kristin, Pat, Galen and I could have a night on the town (which was one drink and sushi) in the Gaslamp District.
Six Months Old!!
She loves to turn sideways in the bath. She's growing out of the baby bath awfully fast!
A typical beach outfit before we were allowed to put sunscreen on her sensitive skin.
An overcast beach day. We think she looks like a ninja here. I love this picture because you can tell she's smiling under that blanket.
This was her fourth of July outfit. That hat made her look like she was going swimming...in the 1920s.

Rolling
Last night I awoke to see the top of Lucy's head on our video baby monitor rather than her cute face. She rolled over in the middle of the night onto her belly. This isn't the first time she's rolled over, it's just the first time she did it in her crib while sleeping peacefully. Thinking that she was going to suffocate, I went in to roll her back over onto her back. She didn't like this very much. I woke her up out of a deep sleep and she started wailing. The rest of the night went like this: she'd settle down, start to fall asleep, then roll over onto her belly and start screaming. Mom or Dad would go in, settle her down, she'd start to fall asleep, roll over onto her belly.... It was a long night.
The same happened during her nap times today. I had to keep going in to flip her onto her back because she would cry every time she flipped onto her tummy.
Between naps today, I tried to coax her into showing me her new trick while Galen was at work. But she wouldn't roll over for me. Apparently she was content to lay on her back. Until Galen came home.
All it takes is the ABC song, sung by Daddy. Three times he sang the song to her and three times she rolled over towards him.

Lucy's new talent
Last week, Lucy started blowing bubbles or raspberries. This first video is of her early attempts. on Saturday. Notice how hard she's concentrating, trying to figure out how to make such a funny sound. She ended up just spitting more than anything else.
The second video was taken yesterday, Wednesday. After only a few days, Lucy has become much more proficient. It's not quite as much spit and more sound. Notice how she's blowing bubbles on cue, too. Oh, and she just started loving this bouncer. Whenever anyone holds her on their lap, all she wants to do it bounce. So this bouncy seat is just perfect. I'm convinced she's going to skip sitting up and crawling and move right to standing and running.

Random pics
Lucy had her 4 month old appointment with the doctor today. She is 13 pounds 11 ounces (50th percentile) and 26.25 inches long (100th percentile). Yay! She slept through the night for the first time on Monday night. 7:30 pm to 7:00 am. Of course, that didn't mean I really got any more sleep. I kept waking up and wondering if she was ok, when was she going to wake up... But, she hasn't slept through the night since. She usually sleeps from 7pm to 4ish in the morning. After a few ounces of formula she goes right back to sleep. Thank goodness.
This is Lucy's favorite pose now. At any given moment you can catch her trying to suck on her toes or taking off her socks in order to suck on her toes.

Whenever we go to the beach on the weekend, we are prepared. Lucy naps in her big stroller with her "friends" hanging above her and the sound of ocean waves playing through the little white speakers you can see on the right side of the picture.

I just love bath pictures. She's looking up at Galen.

We took Lucy to Hemet for the first time last weekend. We had a great visit with Grandpa Jim and Barbara. Patrick and Jolene shared their AWESOME news with us: Lucy will soon have another cousin to play with. Uncle Patrick and Aunt Jolene are expecting their first bundle of joy in November. Hooray!!!!
Here is grandma Cha-chu reading to Lucy at Aunt Rocky's house. We girls had a nice visit while Uncle Stan and Galen played golf.

I know it seems that we like to make Lucy cry (remember the bunny ears?), but we really don't. She's getting so much more vocal. She squeals when she doesn't like something, when she's tired, or when she's trying to laugh. I think this one was when she was getting tired. I'm not sure why I find it so funny.
I love my exersaucer
Notice all the burp cloths stuffed in around Lucy. There is also a folded up towel under her feet that you can't see. She's a little too small to really play in this thing. In fact, Galen and I end up shaking all the toys because she can't do that either quite yet. I have a little too much time on my hands I suppose....
